PHOENIX, AZ – As part of its ongoing efforts to combat the growing number of veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder, The Headstrong Project raised more than $1.5 million at its fifth annual benefit gala in New York City. The organization’s largest event of the year not only raises funds and awareness in front of a star-studded audience, but also honors the inspiring commitment of veterans and those working with veterans. TSB Capital Advisors and its affiliate company, TSB Realty, continued their proud support of the powerful evening as sponsors for the second consecutive year.

“When most people go through counseling, rehab or mental health treatment, they want to get on with their lives and forget about it,” explained Zach Iscol, founder and executive director of The Headstrong Project and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, at the gala. “The folks we treat are the exact opposite. As soon as they are better, they want to tell everyone about their experience because it can help others. It’s another act of service. It takes courage.”

Iscol founded The Headstrong Project in 2012 to develop a first-of-its-kind, comprehensive treatment program for veterans in need. With an emphasis on cost-free, stigma-free and bureaucracy-free services, the organization has created a nationwide network of private clinicians, including psychologists, psychiatrists and clinical social workers. This year’s gala highlighted the organization’s continued work and featured first-hand stories from those who have directly benefited. The event was hosted by late-night television personality Seth Meyers, and attended by actor Jake Gyllenhaal, Tony Award-winner Ruthie Ann Miles and Headstrong committee member Chelsea Clinton.

“This is an important program providing life-saving care for our veterans, and the benefit gala offers an opportunity to hear firsthand how it is making a difference,” said Timothy S. Bradley, founder of TSB Capital Advisors and a principal with TSB Realty. “Our firms are honored to help support such a vital cause and take part in this special evening.”

More than 4,000 Iraq and Afghanistan veterans report symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, and the Veterans Administration estimates an average of 20 a day die from suicide. The Headstrong Project currently provides direct help throughout New York (Buffalo, Rochester, Ithaca and New York City), Southern California (San Diego, Riverside and Los Angeles) and Colorado (Denver, Boulder and Colorado Springs), as well as Houston, Texas and Washington, D.C. With the success of this year’s gala and other fundraising efforts, the organization looks to continue to expand its efforts throughout the country.
